Even though everything is available to rent, experienced divers often bring their own mask (for fit and comfort), dive computer (for familiarity and logging), and SMB (Surface Marker Buoy). An SMB is mandatory at virtually all Komodo dive sites, and while most operators provide them, having your own ensures you are comfortable deploying it in strong currents.
The major PADI 5-Star and SSI Diamond dive centres in Labuan Bajo maintain their equipment to international standards, with regular servicing schedules. If equipment quality is a concern, look for operators that list their gear brands and maintenance practices on their website, or ask directly when booking.
Own-gear discount: Most dive centres offer approximately 5% off the day trip price if you bring your own full set of equipment.
