The number of days you need depends on your goals, budget, and whether you want to combine diving with other activities like Komodo dragon trekking or island hopping. Here is a guide to help you plan the right trip length.
| Trip Length | Total Dives | What You Can Cover | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 days | 6 | Central sites only (Batu Bolong, Manta Point, Tatawa) | Short stopovers, limited time |
| 3 days | 9 | Central + select northern sites | Minimum recommended for diving-focused visitors |
| 4–5 days | 12–15 | North + Central sites comprehensively | Ideal balance of diving and exploration |
| 6–7 days | 18–21 | North, Central, and South sites | Dedicated divers wanting the full experience |
| 7–11 days | 20–30+ | Complete Komodo coverage or Bali crossing route | Extended liveaboard itineraries |
If you are diving with a Labuan Bajo-based dive center on day trips, you get 3 dives per day. A standard liveaboard offers 3 to 4 dives per day, including the possibility of night dives. Liveaboards are more efficient because you wake up at the dive sites rather than spending 1.5 to 2.5 hours in transit each morning and evening.
The Quick Trip (3 days / 2 nights): Arrive Day 1, dive Days 2–3, depart Day 4. This gives you 6 dives across central Komodo sites and a taste of what the park offers.
The Balanced Trip (5–6 days): Arrive Day 1, dive Days 2–5, rest or explore Day 6, depart Day 7. This allows 12+ dives, time for a Komodo dragon trek on Rinca Island, and a rest day before flying home (important for off-gassing).
The Ultimate Trip (7+ days or liveaboard): A 5 to 7-night liveaboard covering north, central, and south Komodo delivers 15 to 20+ dives and access to remote sites like Manta Alley and Cannibal Rock that are impossible to reach on day trips.
Important: Remember to schedule a no-dive day before flying. You should wait at least 18 to 24 hours after your last dive before boarding a flight to avoid decompression sickness risk.
