All visitors to Komodo National Park are required to pay government-regulated entrance fees. These fees fund park conservation, ranger patrols, and infrastructure maintenance. The fee structure applies per person, per day.
| Fee Type | Cost (IDR) | Approx. USD | Frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Park entrance fee | 250,000 | ~$17 | Per person, per day |
| Harbor fee | 25,000 | ~$1.70 | Per person, per day |
| Diving activity surcharge | 25,000 | ~$1.70 | Per person, per day |
| Snorkeling activity surcharge | 15,000 | ~$1 | Per person, per day |
A foreign diver visiting for one day will pay a total of approximately IDR 300,000 (~$20 USD) in park fees.
If you combine diving with a guided dragon trek on Rinca or Komodo Island, additional ranger fees apply:
| Trek Location | Ranger Fee (IDR) | Approx. USD | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Padar Island viewpoint | 150,000 | ~$10 | Shared per group |
| Komodo Island trek | 200,000 | ~$13 | Shared per group |
| Rinca Island trek | 200,000 | ~$13 | Shared per group |
As of early 2025, park fees are processed through a government-managed digital booking system. Some dive operators include park fees in their package price (for example, Dragon Dive Komodo), while others list them separately. Always confirm with your operator what is and is not included before booking.
Payment is accepted in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Bring sufficient cash as digital payment infrastructure can be unreliable. ATMs exist in Labuan Bajo but may run out of cash during peak season.
Starting in April 2026, the Indonesian government is enforcing a strict daily visitor cap of 1,000 people across core park zones. This means advance booking is more important than ever, particularly during peak season months of July through September. Divers should confirm their park entry permit is secured well ahead of their travel dates.
Cost-saving tip: Park fees are charged per day, so a liveaboard that visits the park over multiple days will accumulate higher total park fees than a shorter day trip. Factor this into your overall budget, especially for trips lasting 4 or more days.
