Safely extend your depth range to 40 meters with SSI's Deep Diving specialty. Learn to plan and execute deep dives on Komodo's dramatic walls, pinnacles, and drop-offs.
The SSI Deep Diving specialty trains you to plan and execute dives between 18 and 40 meters with confidence. Over 3 training dives, you'll learn deep dive planning, gas management, narcosis awareness, and emergency procedures specific to deeper diving.
Komodo's underwater topography is ideal for deep diving training — steep walls dropping to depth, current-swept pinnacles rising from the deep, and outstanding visibility that lets you appreciate the full scale of the underwater landscape. Sites around Komodo offer natural deep profiles with rich marine life encounters at every depth. Prerequisites: SSI Open Water Diver certification with a minimum of 24 logged dives.
Komodo's dramatic underwater walls and pristine deep reef structures provide an ideal environment for deep diving training. Consistently clear visibility at depth and varied terrain make every deep dive a genuine learning experience.

Ask about SSI Deep DivingNot all dive centers are created equal. Here's what to look for when choosing where to do your SSI course in Komodo.
Instructor Experience
Look for SSI instructors at Diamond or Elite certification level — the highest SSI instructor ratings. Ask how many certifications they've completed and whether they specialise in your target program.
Safety Standards
Ensure they have emergency oxygen, first aid kits, and DAN insurance on every boat. Ask about emergency protocols and equipment servicing schedules — SSI centres should follow SSI safe diving standards.
Equipment Quality
Ask to see the student equipment before committing. Modern, well-maintained gear from recognised brands (Scubapro, Mares, Cressi) ensures a better and safer learning experience.
Group Size
Smaller student groups mean better instructor attention and faster skill development. Look for centres offering 2–4 students per instructor rather than filling sessions to maximum capacity.
Boat Quality
Long days at sea require comfortable, well-equipped boats. Check for shade, toilets, safety gear, and a clean dive deck. A good boat makes your training days significantly more enjoyable.
Reviews & Reputation
Read recent reviews focusing on instructor communication, patience, and how the centre handles students who progress at different speeds. Consistent high ratings over many reviews are a strong signal.
