SSI's fully digital approach pairs perfectly with the modern Komodo dive experience. Study at home on your phone, arrive in Komodo, and spend your time in the water — not in a classroom.

Ask about SSI Open Water DiverNot all dive centers are created equal. Here's what to look for when choosing where to do your SSI course in Komodo.
Instructor Experience
Look for SSI instructors at Diamond or Elite certification level — the highest SSI instructor ratings. Ask how many certifications they've completed and whether they specialise in your target program.
Safety Standards
Ensure they have emergency oxygen, first aid kits, and DAN insurance on every boat. Ask about emergency protocols and equipment servicing schedules — SSI centres should follow SSI safe diving standards.
Equipment Quality
Ask to see the student equipment before committing. Modern, well-maintained gear from recognised brands (Scubapro, Mares, Cressi) ensures a better and safer learning experience.
Group Size
Smaller student groups mean better instructor attention and faster skill development. Look for centres offering 2–4 students per instructor rather than filling sessions to maximum capacity.
Boat Quality
Long days at sea require comfortable, well-equipped boats. Check for shade, toilets, safety gear, and a clean dive deck. A good boat makes your training days significantly more enjoyable.
Reviews & Reputation
Read recent reviews focusing on instructor communication, patience, and how the centre handles students who progress at different speeds. Consistent high ratings over many reviews are a strong signal.
