Extend your depth range to 40 meters with the PADI Deep Diver specialty. Learn to plan and safely execute deeper dives on Komodo's dramatic walls, pinnacles, and current-swept sites.
The PADI Deep Diver specialty course trains you to plan and execute dives between 18 and 40 meters safely and confidently. Over 4 deep dives, you'll learn about gas management at depth, narcosis recognition, buddy contact procedures, and the physiological effects of deeper diving.
Komodo is an ideal location for deep diving training — the park's underwater walls, pinnacles, and channels offer natural depth profiles with outstanding visibility. Sites like the deep walls near Horseshoe Bay and the drop-offs at Batu Bolong provide genuine deep diving scenarios with rich marine life at every level. Prerequisites: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent.
Komodo's underwater topography is ideal for deep diving training. Dramatic walls dropping to 40m+, pristine deep reef structures, and consistently good visibility make it one of the best locations in Southeast Asia for this specialty.

Ask about PADI Deep DiverNot all dive centers are created equal. Here's what to look for when choosing where to do your PADI course in Komodo.
Instructor Experience
Look for instructors with hundreds of certifications completed. Ask about their rating — IDC Staff Instructors and Course Directors have the highest PADI training. Check if they speak your language fluently.
Safety Standards
Ensure they have emergency oxygen, first aid kits, and DAN insurance. Ask about their emergency action plan and evacuation procedures. Check if they service regulators annually and maintain equipment regularly.
Equipment Quality
Ask to see the equipment beforehand. Well-maintained, modern equipment (Scubapro, Mares, Apeks) works better and safer. Check BCD functionality, regulator breathing ease, and wetsuit condition.
Group Size
PADI allows up to 8 students per instructor, but smaller is better. 2–4 students means more personalised attention, a slower pace, and better skill development. Worth paying extra for.
Boat Quality
Comfortable boats with toilets, shade, and good safety equipment make long days more enjoyable. Ask about boat size, facilities, and whether they have spare boats for emergencies.
Reviews & Reputation
Read recent reviews focusing on instructor patience, safety culture, and how they handle nervous students. Consistent 4.5+ star ratings over 50+ reviews indicate reliable quality.

The PADI Deep Diver specialty takes 2 days and consists of 4 progressively deeper dives to a maximum of 40m.
Day 1 — Deep Dive Theory & Dives 1–2
Review deep diving theory: gas management, narcosis, decompression awareness, and emergency procedures. Complete your first two deep dives at 25–35m.
Pro tip: Stay well hydrated and well rested before deep dives. Dehydration and fatigue increase narcosis susceptibility.
Day 2 — Dives 3–4 to 40m
Complete your final two qualification dives reaching the full 40m recreational limit. Demonstrate competent deep dive planning and execution.
Congratulations! You're now a PADI Deep Diver — certified to dive to 40m, the maximum recreational depth.
