Why Komodo Is a Must-Dive Destination
Komodo National Park, located in the heart of the Coral Triangle, is consistently ranked among the world's top diving destinations. With over 1,000 species of fish, 260 species of reef-building coral, and regular sightings of manta rays, sharks, and sea turtles, the underwater world here is nothing short of spectacular.
Choosing Your Season
The diving season in Komodo runs year-round, but conditions vary dramatically. The warm season (March-May) brings calm seas and excellent visibility, while the cooler season (July-September) attracts nutrient-rich upwellings that draw in pelagic species. Each month offers something unique.
Top Dive Sites You Can't Miss
Batu Bolong is the crown jewel — a submerged rock pinnacle teeming with life from macro to mega. Castle Rock delivers adrenaline-pumping drift dives alongside schools of giant trevally and barracuda. For manta encounters, Manta Alley and Karang Makassar are legendary during peak season.
Day Trips vs Liveaboard
Day trips from Labuan Bajo are convenient and affordable, but a liveaboard unlocks the remote southern sites that are impossible to reach on a day trip. For the full Komodo experience, we recommend combining both — a 3-night liveaboard followed by 2 days of day trips.
What to Pack
Bring a 3mm and 5mm wetsuit (temperatures vary between sites), a reef-safe sunscreen, and a surface marker buoy. Most operators provide tanks and weights, but bringing your own regulator and dive computer ensures comfort and familiarity at depth.
