Travelling with someone who does not dive? Komodo offers plenty of options for non-divers to enjoy the trip alongside their diving companions.
Most Labuan Bajo dive centres allow non-divers to join day trip boats as snorkellers. While divers descend, snorkellers explore the surface — and in Komodo, the snorkelling is genuinely world-class. Manta Point (Karang Makassar) is particularly famous, where snorkellers can swim with manta rays in water as shallow as 3 to 5 metres.
| Detail | Info |
|---|---|
| Typical snorkeller price | IDR 900,000–1,000,000 (~$60–67 USD) per day |
| Included | Snorkel equipment, lunch, drinks, boat transfer |
| Best snorkelling sites | Manta Point, Siaba Besar, Tatawa Besar, Pink Beach |
| Manta ray encounters while snorkelling | Very likely at Manta Point (December–April peak) |
Non-certified visitors who want to try diving can book a Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) experience. This requires no prior certification and includes a pool or confined water session followed by a guided open water dive to a maximum depth of 12 metres. It is an excellent introduction to scuba and can be completed in a single day alongside a regular dive trip.
Non-divers can also enjoy Komodo independently while their companions dive. Popular land-based activities include:
Tip: Several operators offer dedicated combo tours that pair diving for certified divers with snorkelling and island hopping for non-divers, all on the same boat. Ask your dive centre about these options when booking.
