Weather Cancellations for Komodo Day Trips
Weather-related disruptions are uncommon during the dry season but can occur, especially during the wet season (December–March). Here is how operators typically handle them.
Cancellation Scenarios
| Scenario | Operator Response | Your Options |
|---|
| Specific site inaccessible due to wind/waves | Substitute with alternative site | Dive continues at a different (often equally good) site |
| Rough seas make open water transit dangerous | Dive closer, sheltered sites near Labuan Bajo | Reduced site selection but diving continues |
| Severe weather makes all diving unsafe | Cancel the day's diving | Reschedule to another day (if available) or receive a refund/credit |
Cancellation and Refund Policies
- Site substitutions: No refund — the dive continues at a different site. This is standard practice.
- Full day cancellation: Most operators offer rescheduling to another available day. Full refunds are offered if rescheduling is impossible.
- Partial cancellations: If 1 or 2 dives proceed but the third is cancelled, refund policies vary. Ask your operator about their specific policy.
Minimising Weather Risk
- Travel during dry season (April–November): Significantly lower risk of weather cancellations
- Book extra days: Having a buffer day allows rescheduling without losing a dive day
- Travel insurance: Comprehensive travel insurance that covers weather-related activity cancellations is recommended
