Non-Divers on Komodo Dive Boats
Yes — most Labuan Bajo dive centres welcome non-divers as snorkellers on their day trip boats. This is a great option for couples, families, or groups where some members dive and others do not.
Non-Diver Options
| Activity | Price | What's Included | Best Sites |
|---|
| Snorkelling on dive boat | IDR 900,000–1,000,000 (~$60–67) | Snorkel gear, boat transfer, lunch, drinks | Manta Point, Siaba Besar, Tatawa Besar, Pink Beach |
| Discover Scuba Diving | IDR 3,500,000–4,500,000 (~$215–275) | Full DSD experience: theory, pool, 1 ocean dive to 12m | Sebayur Kecil, Siaba Besar |
What Non-Divers Can Expect
While certified divers descend, snorkellers explore the surface reefs. At many Komodo sites, the snorkelling is genuinely world-class:
- Manta Point: Mantas feed and clean in water as shallow as 3–5 metres. Snorkellers regularly swim alongside them — one of the most thrilling wildlife encounters possible without a dive certification.
- Siaba Besar: Turtles, clownfish, and pristine coral visible from the surface in crystal-clear water.
- Tatawa Besar: Colourful coral gardens on a gentle drift.
Important Considerations
- Not all sites are suitable: When divers visit Castle Rock, Batu Bolong, or The Cauldron, these sites are too exposed and current-heavy for snorkellers. Snorkellers stay on the boat during these dives.
- Sea conditions: Boat transit can be long and bumpy. Ensure non-divers are comfortable on boats and bring motion sickness prevention.
- Sun protection: Snorkellers spend more time in the sun than divers. Reef-safe sunscreen, rash guards, and UV hats are essential.
