| PADI Discover Scuba Diving | 10 years | 12 metres | Supervised by instructor at all times |
| PADI Junior Open Water Diver | 10 years | 12 metres (ages 10–11), 18 metres (ages 12–14) | Must dive with certified adult or professional |
| PADI Junior Advanced Open Water | 12 years | 21 metres (ages 12–14) | Must dive with certified adult or professional |
| PADI Open Water Diver (full, unrestricted) | 15 years | 18 metres | Standard adult certification |
| PADI Advanced Open Water (full) | 15 years | 30 metres | Standard adult certification |
Many liveaboard operators have their own minimum age policies, typically 12 or 16 years, regardless of the child's certification level. Private charters may be more flexible. Always confirm the age policy with the liveaboard operator before booking.
Alternative for younger children: Children under 10 can still enjoy Komodo through snorkelling, which has no age restriction and offers excellent encounters at sites like Manta Point and Pink Beach.
