How strong are the currents in Komodo?

Komodo is famous for its strong currents, which is precisely what makes the diving so spectacular. Currents can range from gentle to very strong (3+ knots) at sites like Batu Bolong and Castle Rock.

Current strength varies with the tidal cycle — dive operators time dives to match conditions. Slack tide at popular sites offers calmer conditions, while incoming/outgoing tides bring more fish action but require more experience.
